TPO is proud to support Save the Children's Refugee Crisis Appeal

October 3, 2015 - It's hard to miss the heart-breaking stories of Syrian refugees who are fighting to find a new and peaceful home. It's times like these when we at TPO feel we need to do our part and we're proud to be working with partners like Save the Children to support their efforts to help refugee children.

That's why we're running a special campaign with Save the Children (US) to support their Refugee Crisis Appeal. Through to October 5th, all donations made to the Refugee Crisis Appeal on the TPO Community will be matched by TPO (Up to $5,000). Donating is easy – all you have to do is head to the community and chose any amount from $1 to $100.

Whatever cause you choose to support, don't forget that the TPO Community directs your donations to causes without charging any commissions (only bank charges apply), which means that more of your donation goes directly to the front line to create an impact.

Every donation really does make a difference. With Save the Children, just $15 can provide 1,000 gallons of safe drinking water, or just $35 can provide a refugee child with nutritious food for a week. With all donations being matched by TPO, you can know that your donation goes even further to make a difference for the thousands of children affected by the refugee crisis.

So what are you waiting for? Head over to the TPO Community to find out more about Save the Children's Refugee Crisis Appeal and donate to the cause.

Jimmy Wales and The People's Operator launch new social network TPO.com

New ad-free social network and mobile service launches today with innovative approach to deliver social good

NEW YORK, JULY 21st 2015: Help change lives for the better by joining The People's Operator (TPO), a new social network and mobile community, led by Wikipedia founder & TPO Chairman Jimmy Wales. Believing that small actions can add up to a big difference, TPO was created to bring people together while at the same time supporting good causes.

TPO.com is a new general interest ad-free social network combined with a simple way to donate online and is open to everyone for free. The community is supported by TPO's mobile service where customers have access to a mobile network while directing 10 percent of their monthly mobile phone bill to a social cause of their choice, at no extra cost to them – thus taking an action done every day and turning it into a way to make a big difference.

An ad-free social network with purpose
TPO invites people to join the TPO Community at www.tpo.com. More than a social network, the TPO Community combines social sharing with the ability to donate directly to participating causes – and TPO will pass all proceeds directly to the cause without taking any commissions. The ad-free space gives consumers a way to join forces with others to make the most of how they give back to the causes that matter to them.

“TPO puts consumers and the causes they care about first," said TPO Chairman and Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales. “We want to spread a wave of goodness across the world that benefits millions of people. The TPO Community is designed as a space that works for what people believe in and unites that with the causes they care about and a simple, commission-free way to give.

The more TPO grows with the support of our members, the more we can make a positive change and the more powerful the TPO Community becomes."

At launch, TPO is proud to be working with a range of charitable partners including Feeding America, World Wildlife Fund, Save the Children, WaterAid and Kiva.

Doing good is as easy as a phone call
TPO takes something small like using a mobile device and turning it into a way to make a difference; all while getting a good deal and great mobile service. Plus, no matter what plan they choose, customers can direct 10 percent of their mobile spend each month to a cause of their choice, at no extra cost to them.

“TPO was founded on the idea that an everyday action could be turned into a way to raise money for causes, without having to cost extra or sacrifice on service," said Mark Epstein, CEO and co-founder, The People's Operator. “We're delighted to be bringing our mission to raise billions for causes to the US with a range of competitive plans matched with top of the line customer service."

TPO currently offers both Pre-Paid “Goodness-to-Go" and Monthly “Unlimited Goodness" plans at a range of price points to match with each customer's mobile needs, such as the Unlimited Goodness 32 plan that offers unlimited talk and text plus 2GB of data for just $32 per month, without being locked into a contract. Customers are also able to switch to the mobile network service using their current unlocked device; or choose to buy or lease a device. TPO will offer a range of competitive price options providing customers with excellent service on the latest range of devices.

The People's Operator launches in the US with a mission to raise billions for good causes

NEW YORK, JULY 21st 2015: The mobile network, The People's Operator (TPO), which connects mobile services with the power to raise funds for good causes, today announces its launch in America.
Using an innovative business model to create a global community whose mission is to change lives for the better, TPO will allow customers to donate 10% of their monthly mobile spend to a cause of their choice; at no extra cost to them and without sacrificing good service.

Jimmy Wales, Chairman of TPO and Founder of Wikipedia said: “The launch of TPO in America is an incredible milestone for the business. This is only the beginning of the social good we will initiate with the support of our customers and collaborations with additional charities who are joining our goodness movement. TPO puts customers and the causes they care about first, so the more we can facilitate the company's growth in the US, the more funds we will be able to pass to the communities that need it while our portfolio of cause partners continues to grow."

Social change and exciting philanthropic advocacy lies at the heart of TPO's business operation, which will harness consumers' desire to make the world a better place by simply using their mobile phone. TPO will empower those who wish to “do good" with the means to donate a percentage of their bill to a charity or cause of their choosing, including TPO cause partners Save the Children, Feeding America and Pencils of Promise.

Delivering goodness with every connection, however, doesn't mean sacrificing on price or service.

Mark Epstein, CEO, The People's Operator said: “In addition to making a difference for causes, we want to make sure we're 'delivering goodness' to our customers too. It's important to us that we deliver highly competitive deals and a great quality of service in addition to the mission to make a difference."

“With TPO, you'll still see competitive rates with bundles starting from just $9 and we've worked hard to train our customer service teams, all based in the US, to deliver a seamless, high-quality customer service experience."

Founded in 2012, The People's Operator first launched in the United Kingdom; matching the ability to raise funds for a wide range of social causes with a high quality mobile service and excellent customer service. TPO's ongoing commitment to instigate a global social movement for good will now be realized in the U.S. market; supported with a promotional campaign that will encompass live digital feeds from the newly-launched TPO Community on www.tpo.com and a program of TPO inspired content which will include cause-related testimonials, news updates, videos from charity partners and the community they support – a key component to TPO's call-to-action strategy – and incentives to join the TPO social movement.

“TPO's mobile service is only the beginning of our mission to create a positive change," added Wales. “We are beginning to build a global, online community on TPO.com where like-minded consumers can discuss and share their ideas to bring goodness to all, whilst also being able to donate directly to their cause of choice."

Brea Kratzert Todd, Strategic Partnerships Director of the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) says, “The People's Operator will provide the Wounded Warrior Project with a unique fund-raising opportunity with both social networking and social giving elements in a single open and flexible platform. With cause at the core of the community and the opportunity for followers to donate directly, TPO offers an innovative channel for followers to engage and support WWP."

Terry Macko, Senior Vice President Marketing and Communications from World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says, “With the support of nearly five million members worldwide, WWF works to create a healthy future for our planet's natural resources. We engage stakeholders who help advance our mission and this relationship with The People's Operator will allow us to reach new audiences to help advance WWF's global work toward a future where people live in harmony with nature."

Kristine Leja, Acting CEO, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco says, "At Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, we work with thousands of volunteers, donors and homeowners each year who show their commitment to doing good by helping us build and repair homes and revitalize neighborhoods. Our partnership with The People's Operator means more local families will have safe, stable, affordable places to call home."

Christy Keswick, Chief Operating Officer from Good Sports says, “We see this partnership with TPO as a creative and innovative way to help us achieve our goal of giving all kids the chance to be active. Being able to partner with such a new and unique service will help us expand our reach immensely and work together to change lives for the better."

“We are very happy to be named a featured partner as The People's Operator launches its US operations," said Dana Langham, Chief Corporate Development Officer, Save the Children Federation. “Through this partnership, TPO will be helping to create lasting change in the lives of children in the U.S. and around the world."

Alec Elbert, Chief Strategy and Development Officer from Autism Speaks says, “Through generous corporate sponsorship and support from TPO and their customers, our organization will be able to impact the lives of individuals living with autism. Through TPO's ability to connect us to new supporters, every single contribution will improve lives."

Dr. Murray C. Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of INTASAVE-Nature says, “By working with TPO, we will further raise awareness of our conservation and livelihood work whilst learning about the work of other inspiring organizations through TPO's community of likeminded organizations. Having a presence on this unique platform will allow us to raise more funds and resources to achieve our goal of conserving wildlife and enhancing community livelihoods in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean."

Premal Shah, President and Co-Founder of Kiva says, “We're thrilled that TPO is helping to spread the word about Kiva and our incredible entrepreneurs, as well as tangibly supporting the pursuit of our mission: to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty."

Jimmy Wales to lead The People's Operator

20 Jan 2014

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales to lead mobile phone network The People's Operator Innovative business model to create global community where share of customers' bills and company profits go to good causes

The mobile network, The People's Operator (TPO), today announced that the founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, has been appointed to the board of the Company and has taken a strategic stake in the business. As Co-Chair, he will be involved in all activities of the business and his principal role will be to drive the growth of a global community that connects as a force for good.

The People's Operator was launched in the United Kingdom in November 2012 as a for-profit business with the aim of driving future revenues, a percentage of which would then be distributed to good causes. The more revenue that is generated, the more money will be available for distribution. TPO passes 10% of each customer's bill directly to causes chosen by the customer. In addition, 25% of the Company's profits will go to the TPO Foundation, which will distribute them to good causes.

The Company, which is based in East London's Tech City, is able to offer highly competitive customer deals through savings on marketing and other central corporate costs. TPO is an online proposition and its growth is based on positive recommendations. As a result of low customer acquisition costs, customers get competitive pricing while contributing to good causes at no cost to themselves.

TPO is trademarked in key markets around the world and it intends to launch its business next in the United States.

Speaking at DLD14 in Munich, Jimmy Wales said:

“TPO puts customers and the causes they care about first. With over 4 billion mobile phone subscribers forecast for 2016 worldwide, TPO has huge potential for viral growth and the more it grows, the more money will pass to the people and communities that need it. Only a small percentage in global take up will make a massive difference to people's lives. Just as Wikipedia grew virally as communities wanted to work together to liberate knowledge, so I believe TPO will grow in a similar way as communities work together to support good causes across the globe."

Andrew Rosenfeld, Founder and Co-Chair of TPO, said:

“The TPO philosophy is to share its success with those who really need it. Donating to good causes through commercial success, and empowering the customer is an idea whose time has now come. This is why I'm so excited that Jimmy, who used the power of communities to change the world, is taking the lead at TPO to do the same again."
